What Causes Cavities?
A cavity (or caries) is caused by acid-producing bacteria eating away at the tooth structure over time. While there are many good bacteria in the mouth, certain bacteria, when mixed with sugar in an acidic environment, can cause harmful byproducts that wear away enamel (the hard outside layer of teeth).
How can i prevent cavities?
Reducing the amount of sugary foods and drinks is a huge first step in reducing the chance of getting a cavity. Just as important, though, is reducing the acidic foods and drinks you consume. For example, sports drinks are great after exercising, but they should be consumed sparingly as their acidity level is similar to battery acid! Finally, properly brushing and flossing your teeth will help reduce the plaque buildup on your teeth, and most mouthrinses will kill the bad bacteria living in your mouth.
Which insurance companies do you accept?
While we currently accept a number of insurance companies and CareCredit, we are happy to work with you individually for a payment plan. Come stop by for a consultation!
When should I start taking my child to the dentist?
It is important to teach children the importance of oral hygiene early in life. As soon as your child's teeth come in it is important to show them how to properly brush their teeth for 2 minutes. Even acclimating your child with the dentist office is good to show them that the dentist is not scary at all, and is only here to help!
